Relationships are difficult.

That is all.

Happy

Things are far from perfect, but I can honestly say that I am happy.

One more week before I'm officially a 2nd year resident. Man, time flies.

Random Stuff/Updates

So it's been awhile.

Things are going great I suppose.

Currently in the call room. They're aren't any patients in the ER right now which means I get to lay down and try to sleep. I'm kind of ready to be done with residency. I mean things are going great. I'm just kind of ready to be out on my own I guess. I hate having to be on call and working weekends. I also feel like I've reached a point where I'm able to make my own clinical decisions. There are times where my attending makes me prescribe certain meds and order tests that I don't agree with. I guess it's a sign that I'm learning/growing and developing my own practice style. However, there's still a ton of things I still need to learn.

Ummmmm, what else..... Oh. I've been trying to take better care of myself. Finally went to the dentist since I have free dental insurance now. Found out that I have 12 cavities and that I need a root canal!!!! It's all because I didn't floss since all my cavities are interproximal. SMH.

I've also started working out a little bit more and eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. I figured I should try to practice what I've been preaching to my patients.

I'm also struggling to read more books. Man, I remember back in the day I could read a whole novel in a few hours. Now I struggle to get through 2 chapters. My first goal is to re-read the Great Gatsby before the movie comes out. I really hope I can finish it. I have a habit of getting half way through a book and then I'll just throw it aside and start reading another one. I also started reading Madame Bovary, Chocolat, and this other book my Maya Angelou. I failed to finish reading a single book. I need to do better.

Still single, but not worried. My aunty called me like 3 days ago asking me if I was talking to anyone. I said no, and she proceeded to ask my why. She literally told me that she is scared for me because time is "passing by". SMH. I told her to calm down. I am not rushing into anything. My husband will come when God says it is time, and I am not going to force myself to be with anyone just so that I can get married. I remember like 2 months ago at church, almost 6 people asked me about why I was still single. I just need everyone to calm down. I'm not worried, so they shouldn't be either.

I mean, yes I want to get married. No one really wants to be alone, but I understand how important it is to choose wisely. Four years ago I remember I was crying and begging God to bring me a boyfriend ASAP! For some reason, I felt that I needed a boyfriend to make it through medical school. Well God didn't listen to my foolishness and I'm glad. I have gone under a serious transformation physically, emotionally, and spiritually in the past few years. In these last 4-5 years feel like I've finally started on the path that God intended me to be on.  I appreciate my singlehood. I realize now that back then I just wasn't ready for a relationship. Am I ready now? Maybe.

Oh yea, my little sister got into medical school!! She'll be going to the same school I graduated from.

Yea.

I think that's it for now.

Confused??

So why can't I get this guy out of my head?

I've gone out with him twice, and each time I've concluded that I don't really like him. Then next thing I know, I can't get him out of my head. What is my problem? Is God trying to tell me something? Or did this guy cast some sort of spell on me? Lol. Really confused.

I mean he's a very nice guy. He's cute. Kind of funny. Family oriented. Seems to be God fearing and he goes to church every Sunday.

One thing is that he's not in school and I don't really know what his plans are considering his education. Can I marry someone without a degree?? He's also not as tall as I would like. If I wear 5 inch heels, I'm slightly taller than him. Does that really matter?

I don't like this feeling. I don't like it at all.

New Year!

It's been awhile.

A new year, another year older.  Can't believe it's already 2013. Man, 2012 went by so fast. 2012 was such a good year for me, and I pray that 2013 is even better.

Residency is going well. About 6 more months and I'll no longer be considered a 1st year/intern. I will be soon referred to as an "upper level," CRAZY. I've learned so much in the past few months. I can also feel that my confidence level has gone up. I no longer feel like a stupid intern, but still have a long way to go. All glory to God for seeing me through.

Still single. Maybe 2013 will be the year... maybe. No rush though.

Oh yea! My birthday was at the end of December, and everyting went well. Well guess who called? Mr. Banana! I was shocked. I tried my best to cut all ties with him. He had recently gotten a new phone and apparently lost his contacts. I found this out through facebook, so I purposefully didn't send my number because I didn't want him to call/text me anymore. Well, I was out shopping on my birthday and I get a text from him. I'm thinking WTF, how did he get my number?  He wished me a happy birthday and kept texting me to tell me that he was in town and asking me if I was in town too. So I said that I was in town, but that I had a very tight schedule and would be leaving in like 2 days. Well, later that night he actually CALLED. He wished me happy birthday AGAIN, and then asked where I was and what I was doing. He told me he was going out to get a drink and a bite to eat, and I told him I was on my way to church. It was so unusual. Of course I asked him how his wife and kid were to remind him that he had a family. I dunno, I think it inappropriate to be friends with married guy who you used to date. It's increasingly inappropriate if his wife doesn't know about me. I think it would be a different story if I was friends with his wife too, and she was okay with the fact that her husband and I used to date. I dunno, he just really needs to move on.

That's all for now.

Went on a date!

I went on a date yesterday. It's the same guy I went out with last year on my birthday. Why did I go out with him? Because I thought maybe we could actually work. Well I was WRONG. A few weeks ago, I was sitting and talking with my mom, aunts and uncles. They were running through a list of potential bachelors in the metroplex. I rejected all of them of course. So then they brought up this same guy and they all kept saying how much they liked him, how nice he was, and how nice his family was. So I guess I felt a liitle pressured. Well, a few days after that, he came to my church for a special even tthat we had. He looked nice, and I thought that maybe I was just being a bitch. So I decided to pursue things a little further. We started talking/texting like everyday. I realized he was a really nice, sweet guy. It seemed like we had the same view on a lot of things. So I was kind of excited when we decided that we were going to meet up and go to one of my favorite restaurants.

Well, things didn't really go as I imagined. I realized that I just was NOT attracted to him. I really enjoyed talking to him on the phone, but in person, it was just different for some reason. I realized I'm not really attracted to him. He's actually pretty cute, but I'm just not attracted to him. So now he really likes me, and I'm trying to find a way to stop talking to him. I just can't do it. For a second I thought that I was finally going to be in some kind of relationship. NOPE!

Sooo...

Been so busy lately.

I am really happy with my residency program. I thank God that I matched here. I get along well with the residents, even though some of them kind of get on my nerves sometimes lol. All my attendings are super nice and they are really there to help us learn. I'm still adjusting though. One day I feel SUPER smart, and the next day I feel completely useless and dumb. There is just sooooo much to learn. I honestly only feel smart 10% of the time, haha. I let the smallest things get to me, and it's something I really need to work on. I thought a patient had hypocalcemia, but I forgot to check the albumin level. So she wasn't really low on calcium. I felt dumb for like 2 whoooole days! I was like, "OMG everybody is going to think I'm so stupid because I forgot to check her albumin levels, and they're going to wonder how the heck I made it out of med school, and then they're going to regret that I matched into their program!!!" I just need to get over it, and accept that I'm going to make mistakes.

I gained some weight. I think this time last year I was 15 pounds lighter. I think I look fine. Yesterday I ate 22 cookies, and I'm eating more as I type. However, my parents and everyone at church thinks I'm fat. I've gone from a size 2 to a size 6. I honestly don't want to lose weight. But there will be no peace unless I lose at least 5 lbs. Nigerian parents can be so silly sometimes. Last year they were shoving food in my face, and praying that I would gain some weight. Now I gained the weight and it's a problem. Bleh

A few months ago I ran into this guy I went to college with at the store. Since then he's been trying to woo me. Prior to this, I had seen him like 5 years ago. Now he keeps telling me that he wants me to marry him.?????? Since I have known this guy, I've probably only talked to him in person for a total of 15 minutes. He's delusional. He has an MPH/MBA, and he ALWAYS has to remind me of it. He even put it as his signature in the facebook messages. Who the heck has a signature on facebook? LAME. He's always sending me pictures of himself all dressed up. But I'm not going to lie, it is very entertaining. So I allow him to think he has a chance so that I have something to make me laugh on those slow nights when I'm on call. I've said some pretty means stuff to him, but he just keeps coming back for more.

That's all for now.
